My natural hair journey is unique because I decided to transition as a method to grow out my natural hair instead of doing the big chop. In other words, I basically stopped receiving a perm because it caused my hair to thin as well as break off.
Many people who went the transitioning route will tell you that there are positives and negatives to transitioning, but I loved it for the most part. I love transitioning because I was able to retain my hair length (I was used to styling my hair long). The main problem with transitioning is that I I had to blend two different hair textures. As a solution to the blending problem, I usually wear my hair in a twist out now. When I am tired of doing twist outs, I alternate between low manipulation buns or I will install crochet braid. In order to get rid of the perm hair, I trimmed my hair every two or three months.
